Uchanics Top Six Maintenance Tips and Tricks to Keep Your Car Out of The Junkyard!
1. Gradually Brake When Coming to a Stop
Avoid Speeding Off From a Stopped Position.
Going from 0 to 100 real quick is fun and exciting in movies and music videos but in reality it is very harmful to a number of systems that are crucial to the efficient operation of your car. Your car’s engine, gearbox, fuel pump, injectors, braking system and ball joints are all negatively impacted when your car is forced to stop abruptly from high speeds or when your car is pushed to accelerate rapidly from a sedentary state. The chances of getting into an accident and harming yourself or someone else are also greatly increased when a driver stops abruptly or accelerates rapidly. Brake gradually and increase your speed safely, it will save you time and money and help your car last longer.
2. Avoid Extremely Low and High Tire pressure.
Tire pressure that is too high or too low can increase your car’s fuel consumption, damage your car’s rims and reduce your car’s accelerating and stopping abilities. A tire in which the tread is worn down to the wire could pop and cause an accident that could put you and your car out of commission. Every time an Uchanics certified mechanic performs a service on your vehicle he or she will check your tire pressure and thread life to help keep you and your passengers safe on the road. To avoid these potential life threatening hazards and money guzzlers, you should change your tires in a timely fashion. First, don’t forget about the seasonal tire change. Second, switch front and rear tires at least once a year.
3. Shift Gears Correctly.
When parking, performing a three-point turn or changing from reverse to drive it is important to come to a complete stop before changing from one gear to another. Changing gears while your car is still moving could damage your vehicle’s transmission and could lead to repairs that may cost you thousands of dollars. Coming to a complete stop before changing gears, will have your transmission and your wallet thanking you.
4. Don’t Ignore Your Car’s Dashboard:
Your dashboard is your car’s way of screaming at you and saying, “help me! I’m in pain and feeling neglected!” The symbols on your car’s dashboard warn you that something is wrong and requires attention. For example, the engine’s temperature is too high, something’s wrong with the electrical system or the braking fluid level is too low. Call a Uchanics’ certified mechanic, we can understand all of the symbols on your car’s dashboard, we speak car fluently.
5. Don’t Skip Vehicle Inspections
and Scheduled Repairs:
Your car’s maintenance schedule can save your car’s life and keep it from the junkyard! Precautionary servicing such as checking engine oil levels, rotating tires, inspecting a car’s alignment, frame and braking components and engine components is one of the best ways to prevent expensive repairs and keep your car running longer. For example, every 1200 kms check your oil and every 500 kms check your vehicle’s air filter.
6. Avoid overloading:
Just like you, your car does not enjoy being overloaded. Every vehicle has a maximum load capacity, this is the amount of weight that your vehicle can safely and efficiently transport. Check your owner’s manual to find out your vehicle load capacity; not carrying excess loads will save on fuel consumption, tire wear, transmission and suspension repairs. Driving below the maximum load will also assist with your cars controllability meanwhile driving.
