Labour is calculated by Multiplying the length of time it will take to do the repairs by the Hourly Rate
Anti-lock brake systems (ABS) are a mainstay in most modern cars. These brake systems make use of sensors in determining the rotation rates of car wheels. The information is then sent to a computer for proper regulation of brake pressure in the event that the car wheels lock when braking. Considered a Hall effect component, the sensor analyses wave produced by the tone ring that is affixed to the axle or wheel. There are four-channel ABS systems in cars, and each monitors to which they are attached. Older pickups, however, have three-channel systems, with the rear axle monitored by a sensor and the remaining two sensors for the front wheels.
Note:
– The entire brake system will cease to operate with no anti-lock control if one ABS speed sensor fails. Your mechanic will usually be able to identify which, and how many sensors have failed after diagnosing the system.
– The Anti-lock brake system light automatically turns on and stays lit when the car’s ABS sensor fails.
– Losing the functionalities of your ABS system makes steering overly difficult, especially in emergency situations where brakes might be locked up and stopping distance increased.
Inspect parking brake cable
Remove the affected tire
Remove faulty parking brake cable and replace with new one
Adjust the parking brake
Test drive car to ensure parking brake works normally
Emergencies cannot be ruled out when on the road, and a functional ABS system can save the day in such scenarios since they ensure your brakes don’t lock up and hit an obstacle. Driving around without an operational ABS system, therefore, exposes you to dangers and poor steering on difficult terrains.
Consider replacing your ABS sensors when:
– The ABS warning light permanently stays on after starting your car
– The ABS system is unresponsive and brakes lock up when you test drive on ice or slippery terrains.
Our Recommendation:
Consider hiring a mechanic when brake system problems arise. This will ensure timely replacement of defective sensors. Without a properly functioning ABS system, chances are high of locking up brakes, especially in an emergency situation or when driving on slippery terrains.
