5 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR BRAKES LAST LONGER

5 WAYS TO HELP YOUR BRAKES LAST LONGER

 1. Slow Down

Driving faster may get you where you want to go a lot quicker but it will also wear down your brakes and rotors a lot quicker. Forcing your vehicle to consistently stop or slow down from speeds of120km an hour as opposed to 100km an hour or less will cause your brakes to wear out significantly quicker. If you would like for your brakes to last for the next three years and maybe even longer the solution is simple, simply slow down. Slowing down saves your gas, saves your brakes, saves you from speeding tickets and could save a life.

 2. Coast To a Stop

Coasting to a stop instead of slamming down on your brakes in a panic is a great way to reduce high brake-destroying speeds without activating your brakes to do so. Stay focused and plan your stop ahead of time, it will save your brakes and your dollars because less speed equals less heat building up between the brakes and rotors when they connect to slow and stop a moving vehicle. Slowing from 100km down to 90km or 80km an hour before you come to a complete stop can significantly increase the life and overall stopping ability of your brakes and rotors.

3. Reduce Weight

Don’t overload your vehicle with unnecessary items; carrying an excessively high number of heavily weighted items will burden your vehicles breaking system, cause them to wear quicker each time your brakes are activated.

4. Change Your Brake Fluid

Brake fluid should be flushed and replaced every two years or so. This is extremely important if you own an older vehicle or one that you just recently purchased used. Not periodically changing your brake fluid could cause the line that initiates the braking system to corrode or rot. The rotting comes from the fact that brake fluid attracts water and moisture from water will cause internal corrosion. Your brake lines are essential actors in the vehicle braking process and it is important that they are maintained.

5Buy The Good Stuff

Using high quality brakes and rotors may cost you more money upfront but the future savings could be double the price you paid initially. Bargain, discount, brand brakes and rotors tend to wear out much quicker and give problems that the good ones tend not to give. Ask the mechanics at Uchanics what brakes they recommend based on your location and driving habits. All brakes are designed differently and depending on where you drive, and how you drive, a specific brake and rotor material might be better for your vehicle.
